This secondary mud dye process builds on the same iron–tannin system but shifts the palette through marigold and pomegranate peels. The core remains rusted iron liquor and red mud (Geru Mitti), but here katha, madder and sappan are removed from the process. Instead, marigold flowers and pomegranate peels provide a different tannin profile that shifts the tone away from deep browns toward muted greenish browns. Iron still drives the reaction, with mud acting as a mineral carrier rather than a primary dye.
The Fabric sits in this solution for roughly a day, allowing iron, mud and marigold to fully interact with the fibre. The result is a deeper, mineral green with dark, irregular modulation across the surface.
