For Handloom Denim, Kala cotton is handwoven in a drill weave in two colourways. The black is achieved using iron, ash, and other natural dyeing ingredients. The beige uses a combination of myrobalan and walnut shells, both tannin rich sources that produce warm, muted tones.
Because the fabric is handwoven, the diagonal structure of the drill sits more prominently on the surface than it would on a machine made equivalent. The weave is visible and textured in a way that flat, mill produced denim cannot replicate. The textile carries volume and loft while remaining relatively open in density. Its neither stiff, nor strechy. It behaves more like a structured cotton cloth than a conventional denim, which makes it softer in hand but still substantial enough to hold shape in a garment.
